COST-SHARE GRANTS

The Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program provides funding assistance in the form of cost-share grants, to support the preservation of the most significant and representative historic Route 66 buildings, structures, road segments, and cultural landscapes in the eight states through which the route passes. Assistance is also provided to support research, planning, oral history, and education outreach projects related to the preservation of Route 66.

Program cost-share grant funds are provided through congressional appropriations, which are determined each new fiscal year. Project eligibility criteria requires a minimum 50% (1:1) cost-share match provided by the applicant. All preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation projects are required to conform to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 cost-share grant cycle. The deadline for application submissions is Friday March 29, 2013. The eligibility and evaluation criteria set forth in these guidelines were established for the 2013 funding cycle only, and are subject to revision in the future based on congressional appropriations; continued development of long-term programmatic strategies and guidelines; and consultation with Route 66 stakeholders.

2010: A total of $83,227 was awarded to 5 projects (pdf), with an additional $154,065 contributed in cost-share match.

2009: A total of $66,737 was awarded to 3 projects (pdf) , with an additional $79,704 contributed in cost-share match.

2008: A total of $92,875 was awarded to 8 projects (pdf) , with an additional $142,925 contributed in cost-share match.

2007: A total of $163,516 was awarded to 10 projects (pdf), with an additional $163,516 contributed in cost-share match.

2006: A total of $117,102 was awarded to 7 projects (pdf), with an additional $259,747 contributed in cost-share match.

2005: A total of $114,226 was awarded to 10 projects (pdf), with an additional $134,128 contributed in cost-share match.

2004: A total of $121,184 was awarded to 13 projects (pdf), with an additional $148,129 contributed in cost-share match.

2003: Cost-share grant funds allocated in the 2003 funding cycle equaled $134,875, with an additional $140,010 raised through cost-share contributions. 13 projects (pdf) were awarded funds in 2003.

2002: Grant and cost-share funds allocated in the 2002 funding cycle equaled $151,226, with an additional $231,485 raised through cost-share contributions. 10 projects (pdf) were funded in 2002.

2001: Grant and cost-share funds allocated in the 2001 funding cycle equaled $410,000, with an additional $202,645 raised in cost-share contributions. 16 projects (pdf) were funded in 2001.
