For further information contact Edson Beall via voice (202) 354-2255, fax (202) 371-2229, regular or e-mail: Edson_Beall@nps.gov The National Register of Historic Places is pleased to promote awareness of and appreciation for the history and culture of American Indians during National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. As part of the celebration, the National Register's online site at www.cr.nps.gov/nr/ showcases historic properties listed in the National Register, National Register publications, and National Park units commemorating the events and people, the designs and achievements of American Indians. Join the National Register in paying powerful tribute to the spirit of American Indians, and their contributions to our history. Featured historical places associated with Native American Indians and Alaskans include the Picotte Memorial Hospital, the Cuyler Presbyterian Church, McCord Village, the last site a location where non-reservation Potawatomi, Ojibwe and related American Indians settled and kept there traditions alive in northern Wisconsin. Among the Teaching with Historic Places (TwHP) lesson plans are "A Blending of Cultures in a Pueblo Indian Village," which examines the changing lifeways of the inhabitants of this village from the 7th century to the arrival of the Spanish in the early 17th century, and "Knife River: Early Village Life on the Plains," which examines the complex culture and trading economy of the Hidatsa and Mandan tribes in North Dakota during the 18th century, as seen by anthropologists and artists.
