Oysterman’s Row, Fairfield County Connecticut
Built primarily in the middle of the 19th century, Oysterman’s Row evolved from a sleepy fishing and ship-building village into a center for the local oyster business. Eventually the village grew to serve as a summer retreat for city dwellers and then a year-round suburban community. Today, with many of its buildings built by or for families directly involved in the oyster business, Oysterman’s Row remains an important example of the development pattern of a small Connecticut maritime village.
