National Register of Historic Places Program
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources.

| The Escalante Historic District is located in the town of Escalante, Utah, and comprises the boundaries most of the entire platted city. Escalante is a small community on the eastern side of Garfield County in south-central Utah. Ofthe 289 resources in the district, 124 (or approximately 43 percent) are contributing. The district is historically significant under Criterion A in the areas of Agriculture, Commerce, Community Planning and Development, Exploration/Settlement, and Social History, in that it reflects the evolution of Escalante from isolated settlement to thriving agricultural center to remote, economically challenged community. |
