Williamsburg Historic District, VA: Williamsburg was the Capital of Virginia (1699-1799) and the home of the College of William and Mary, chartered in 1693. Restoration of the district as well as the reconstruction of original buildings began here in 1927. The approach to reconstruction used at Williamsburg was copied by many other historic sites during the twentieth century. |
