Trinity Site, NM: Here, on the bleak and barren desert of the White Sands Missile Range, crossed by the Jornada del Muerto (Journey of Death) trail, the world's first nuclear device (code name "Trinity) was exploded on July 16, 1945, at 5:29:45 a.m. It had been brought from the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in northern New Mexico. The bomb was the forerunner of those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in August of 1945.
