National Historic Landmarks Program

National Historic Landmarks are owned by:

• private individuals

• universities

• private foundations

• corporations

• tribal nations

• local, state, and federal governments

The NHL Program asks for the support of a property owner before a property becomes an NHL.

If you do not own the property in question, your first step should be obtaining the support of the owner.

 
General Federation of Women's Clubs

Alfred Newton Richards Medical Research Laboratories and David Goddard Laboratories Building, PA: Owned by the University of Pennsylvania, the Alfred Newton Richards Medical Laboratories and David Goddard Laboratories Building are among the most important architectural works of Louis Isadore Kahn, the internationally influential architect. The importance of the Richards and Goddard buildings project was recognized nearly universally by the American architectural community from almost the moment of the inception of its design in 1957. This project first brought Kahn to broad recognition by the American (and international) public.

General Federation of Women's Clubs Headquarters, Washington, DC: This was the first permanent headquarters for the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). Founded in 1890, GFWC moved to this building in 1922, when it became involved in conservation projects and community programs. This building is owned by the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
