The NAGPRA Review Committee meeting currently scheduled for May 22 and 23 in Denver, Colorado, will now occur only on May 22, 2013, from 10am to 4pm EDT. This meeting will be telephonic and open to the public. A new meeting notice will publish. All existing deadlines for agenda items will remain as noticed in the Federal Register, August 31, 2012. Those wishing to present public comment must register for the meeting and advise the DFO of their desire to present, and also submit any written items for distribution to the Review Committee, by March 22. Meeting time is limited and advance notice will allow the Review Committee to accommodate as much public comment as possible. DFO: firstname.lastname@example.org

Solicitation of NAGPRA Review Committee Nominations Due July 15, 2013
The notice soliciting nominations for one member of the NAGPRA Review Committee was published in the Federal Register on April 15, 2013. The Secretary of the Interior will appoint the member from nominations submitted by Indian tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations, and traditional Native American religious leaders. The deadline for receipt of nominations is July 15, 2013. Read more...
Secretary Jewell Has Appointed Two To The NAGPRA Review Committee
As one of her first acts as Secretary of the Interior, Secretary Sally Jewell reappointed Dr. Sonya Atalay to the museum and science nominee position for a two year term, and Attorney Steve Titla, San Carlos Apache religious leader to the tribal religious leader position for an initial four year term.
We congratulate the new members of the NAGPRA Review Committee on their appointment, and express our appreciation to all who were nominators, or nominees, for their interest in NAGPRA and the NAGPRA Review Committee.

Final Rule on NAGPRA Regulations Published in the Federal Register
Since 1995, minor inaccuracies or inconsistencies in 43 CFR Part 10 have been identified by or brought to the attention of the Department. On April 18, 2012, we published in the Federal Register proposed amendments to provide for factual accuracy and consistency throughout 43 CFR Part 10. Those amendments are now final. 2013 NAGPRA Grants Awards and New Grant Policies for 2014
NAGPRA Grants for the FY 2013 year has resulted in awards from the Department of the Interior for 21 consultation/documentation project grants and 13 repatriation grants. Congratulations are due to all awardees and appreciation for their efforts.
Watch this page for news of nation-wide changes in grant applications for FY 2014, affecting all NAGPRA grants. Alll grants for FY 2014 applications will be processed through grants.gov. All applications will be accompanied by a DUNS number, which will facilitate electronic processing of funds.

Proposed Rule on 43 CFR 10.7 Published
On October 29, 2013, the new NAGPRA regulation section 10.7, Disposition of Unclaimed Human Remains and other Cultural Items Discovered on Federal lands After November 16, 1990, published as a proposed rule. Read the text of the rule
The comment period is open until December 30, 2013. Written comments may be submitted to http://www.regulations.gov. Questions on the rule may be directed to NAGPRA_info@nps.gov.
National NAGPRA Confirms the Review Committee Meeting in November
The 50th meeting of the NAGPRA Review Committee will occur as noticed on Nov. 6 and 7, 2013, in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Information on travel and lodging is on the website as are the agenda and meeting materials. Read more
The National NAGPRA Program training offering of NAGPRA Basics will occur Tues. Nov. 5 as planned in the morning. Registration for NAGPRA Basics is free and will take place on site starting at 8:30 a.m.. The training will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

Registration Open for the December 5 NAGPRA Review Committee Teleconference
As previously noticed in the Federal Register, a public meeting of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Review Committee to finalize the 2013 Report to Congress will take place by teleconference on December 5, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. EST. The finalization of this report will be the only item on the agenda. Register here to listen to the conference.
