42. Inventory and Evaluation Around Blue Mesa Lake,
Curecanti National Recreation Area, Colorado 1991.
Jones, Bruce A.
With the assistance of local volunteers and National Park Service and
Bureau of Land Management resource management trainees, personnel from the
Midwest Archeological Center completed inventory of a narrow band of
exposed shoreline in the upper third of Blue Mesa Lake in Curecanti
National Recreation Area in western Colorado. The inventory examined land
exposed between the 7,520 ft maximum pool level and the 7,510 ft level.
Two previously unrecorded sites were identified, and the boundaries of 11
other known sites were expanded. Nine additional radiocarbon assays were
obtained from hearth charcoal which further document heavy use of the area
between 8,000 and 4,000 B.P. Faunal and macrofloral data identified in
hearth fill indicate the presence of Pinyon and antelope.
Due to the sensitive nature
of this subject this report is
