32. Evaluative Investigations at the Au Sable Light
Station, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Michigan, 1990.
Jones, Bruce A.
Isle Royale National Park in northern Lake Superior was surveyed by
archeologists from the Midwest Archeological Center, National Park Service
from 1987 to 1990, inclusive. Survey efforts were concentrated on the
extensive coastline of the main island and the smaller islands that make up
the archipelago. This report details the survey and limited test
excavation of prehistoric and historic sites within the park. This recent
survey effort succeeded in documenting Archaic stage and Laurel culture
occupation sites, numerous Terminal Woodland occupation sites and copper
mines, and historic fisheries, mines, and resort-era sites.
