26. Archeological Inventory and Testing of Selected Areas
for Hudat Development Projects, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
Cannon, Kenneth P. and Patrick Phillips
In 1990, archeologists from the Midwest Archeological Center conducted a
pedestrian inventory of areas proposed for HUDAT construction projects.
Molt of the designated areas were completely within existing housing
complexes and had extensive ground disturbance. Five sites were documented
in these areas and include three prehistoric lithic scatters and two
Euroamerican sites. Site testing was conducted at two sites, 48YE28, a
prehistoric lithic scatter, and 48YE744, a Euroamerican site. The testing
revealed evidence of shallow subsurface deposits at 48YE28. Testing at
48YE744 produced the remains of late nineteenth and early to mid-twentieth
century cultural deposits in mixed contexts with prehistoric lithic
material.
