A cooperative project between the Wyoming
State Archeologist’s Office , the University
of Wyoming , and the Midwest Archeological Center
of the National Park Service is in its third field
season at Ft.
Laramie National Historic Site . The area in
and near this National Historic Site saw much activity
associated with the fur trade, Indian Wars and treaty
negotiations, and the pioneer movement. So much
happened around this Site that significant archeological
and historical resources are constantly impacted
during maintenance at the Fort. For this reason,
remote sensing and limited excavation are being
used now to help managers plan around these resources
for the future.
Assistant State Archeologist Danny Walker leads
this multi-year project with the assistance of
University students and Volunteers-in-Parks, and
support of Steven De Vore of MWAC.
