Supply the Soldiers in the Field
MISSION #5 - HOW DID YOU ACCOMPLISH YOUR MISSION?
10. At this point in the war, you and the Union Army had possession
of the City Point Railroad, the Norfolk and Petersburg line, and portions of the Weldon Railroad. What was your target in
the Battle of Five Forks (furthest point west of the city of Petersburg)?
11. The Union Army succeeded in breaking through the Boydton Plank
Road, a major roadways west of the city. The success of the Union Army at Five Forks opened the door to the Union Army
to take the Southside Railroad. Why did this mean the end for the Confederate Army?
12. After studying the maps, what do you believe is the goal of a
military siege? Was it a success at Petersburg?
CONGRATULATIONS ON COMPLETING YOUR MISSION. WHILE IT TOOK LONGER FOR YOU TO CAPTURE THE SUPPLY LINES FROM THE CONFEDERATE
FORCES, YOU ACHIEVED YOUR GOAL. YOUR SUCCESS WAS IN PART BECAUSE YOU ESTABLISHED YOUR HEADQUARTERS AT CITY POINT.
